I'm really trying to focus on spending time while painting in pursuit of the image - allowing myself to "find" it. This means creating marks, taking them in, and deciding to preserve or alter them. It always results in a more electrifying surface and satisfying piece.
I look forward to seeing your new piece each day. While wandering the streets with my camera, I'm always scouring stonework for textures similar to what you are creating. There is something primitive, something archetypal, something universal in what you do. Keep it up!
